The original 349 SF BCubed for Biggby Coffee buildings are equipped with 9,048 square inches of mounted shelving space in the kitchen Cube and 1,188 square inches of mounted shelving space in the bathroom Cube. The shelf depths are either 16, 18, or 24 inches.
Buildings installed before April 2023, were mounted with traditional screws drilled into the Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) walls. However, it has been determined that the weight of the product stored on the shelves and the structure of the underlaying wall requires toggle bolts to keep the shelves from buckling.
BCubed recommends replacement of the original screws with toggle bolts. It is recommended heavier items like bags of coffee and syrups are stored on mobile carts or lower shelves. Additionally, it is valuable for owners to consider how the placement of items is on the shelf. Are the items on the edge or centered, etc.
Toggle Bolt Installation Instructions
- Remove all items from shelves.
- Remove all screws from each bracket.
- Drill existing TOP holes with a 5/8" drill bit.
- Use Allen Key to bore out the foam in the wall.
- Place toggle bolts through the top holes of each bracket, place washers behind the bracket and screw on the butterfly clip (make sure the butterfly folds towards the bracket).
- Push both butterfly clips simultaneously into the new 5/8" top holes
- Reinstall the bottom screws
- Use a hand screwdriver to tighten bolts (do not use an impact drill) over tightening could break the butterfly clips.
